PFP tester: see it before you upload it

This profile picture tester shows your photo at the size Instagram, WhatsApp, Discord, TikTok, LinkedIn and X display it. Every platform crops to a circle, but not at the same size, and the test that matters is whether your face still reads at 32 px in a comment.

Profile picture sizes by platform

Every platform crops to a circle, but the diameter it displays differs. These are the sizes your picture is shown at, on the profile and inline in a feed or chat.

PlatformProfileInline
Instagram150 px32 px (comment)
WhatsApp192 px49 px (chat list)
Discord80 px40 px (message)
TikTok96 px40 px (comment)
LinkedIn152 px48 px (feed post)
X133 px40 px (timeline)

Upload a photo above to see it tested at each of these sizes.

Sizes are the typical display diameter on each platform and can vary by device and layout.

How to make a Discord PFP

Start with a photo you can recognize when it is small. The editor opens with a circle crop so you can check what happens to the corners before exporting.

  1. Upload your photo. In Positioning, zoom and move it until your face fits comfortably inside the circle. Leave space around your hair so the crop does not cut it off.
  2. To replace the background, open Background and select Remove Background. Choose a solid color, a two-color gradient or your own image in Photos. Removal sends the photo to fal.ai through BetterPic.
  3. Open Border to add an image border in a solid color or gradient. Adjust Thickness, Opacity and Offset without covering the face.
  4. Check the Discord preview at 80 px and 40 px in both light and dark themes, then download the 500 × 500 PNG. Use the downloaded image as your Discord avatar.

Discord avatar sizes

The preview uses typical Discord display sizes: 80 px on the profile and 40 px next to messages. These are display diameters, not upload requirements, and can vary by device and layout.

The editor exports a 500 × 500 PNG. A circle crop has transparent corners; square is also available. The export size stays the same whichever shape you choose.

Judge the face and border at 40 px, not just in the large editor view. Eyes, hair and one clear color contrast survive that reduction better than tiny text or detailed scenery.

Discord PFP border tips

A border can keep an avatar distinct from the chat around it, but an oversized ring leaves less room for the face. The Image Border controls change the ring around the whole crop, not an outline around your hair.

  • Try a thin light border for a dark portrait against a dark chat. Check that it also remains visible in the light preview.
  • Choose a solid color for a quiet look or two gradient colors for a brighter ring. Reduce the thickness if the ring dominates at 40 px.
  • Use Opacity to soften the ring and Offset to move it inward. Check the final crop after every adjustment.

Discord PFP background tips

Keep the background simpler than the face. A color change can make an avatar readable without adding more detail to a busy member list.

  • Pick a solid color that contrasts with your hair and clothing. Avoid matching a dark silhouette to a dark background.
  • Keep a two-color gradient gentle. With an uploaded photo background, choose a simple scene whose detail does not compete with the face.
  • Inspect the hair edges after background removal before you download. BetterPic uploads the photo to fal.ai storage for removal; BetterPic does not delete the copy fal.ai stores. Provider retention follows fal.ai’s terms.
